Natural Vs Synthetic Supplements

In recent years we’ve been hearing about supplement quality, and I’m sure this makes things a tad difficult when it comes to choosing what to buy. This was me years ago and now that I understand Natural vs Synthetic supplements, I am more aware of what goes into my body and how well natural supplements are absorbed vs those that are synthetic.
Cutting corners to save money
Often manufacturers will cut corners on the quality of the product that is used because it’s cheaper to make and more profitable.
One of the things I learnt before I became a qualified Naturopath is that not all supplements are created equally.
This means that they may not be well absorbed by the body and may contain additives, fillers, and all sorts of synthetic material, including GMO, wheat, and gluten which you don’t need if your body reacts or is sensitive to all of these.
Native Nutrients supplements undergo rigorous testing to make sure that there are no active forms of yeast in the supplement produced or that it does not contain toxins such as mercury. You can rest assured, that our high strength fish oil is clean from any pollutants or mercury.
Synthetic Vs Natural: How nutritional substances can be presented to the body
- Natural unprocessed food: This is the best way to obtain your nutrients. The quality and range of nutrients are determined by the quality of its source and environment. Soil today has a depletion of minerals such as magnesium and selenium, plus all the herbicides and pesticide sprays to which the food is also exposed.
- Isolated chemical form: These are what we call synthetically produced chemical ingredients used and sourced from petroleum, tar and sugars and not always easily recognised or absorbed by the body.
- Amino Acid chelated minerals supplements (amino acid chelates): No food contains them, and nature does not produce them. Chelated minerals are those bound to a chelating agent to enhance supplement absorption. They are synthetically produced minerals but considered more bioavailable than the isolated chemical form.
- Food-based supplements: These are supplements that have been created in a form as close as possible to natural food, to help the body recognise, absorb, and deliver these nutrients far more efficiently than those supplements that have been synthetically manufactured.
Best Supplement Solution
Native Nutrients will come under category number 4, and as a naturopath, I am very proud to be offering you the best possible supplement solution. With food based you will not be wasting your money as these are recognised, absorbed delivering your nutrients to the body in a more efficient way. Nutrients that occur naturally in our food are never alone, they will come in a “food matrix” form, such as enzymes, lipids, protein, flavonoids, dietary fibre, and complex carbs.
Hope the blog clarified what food based is and how it differs from the other nutritional substances that the body does not readily recognise when taken.
